Maths tutoring · Grade R to 7 · Durbanville

A maths tutor in Durbanville, at your child’s pace.

Maths builds on itself. If one piece is missing, everything after it feels hard. I find that piece and we fill it in together, so the rest starts to make sense.

One-to-one or in a small group, with me at Landskron Estate or online on Google Meet. Grade R to 7, following CAPS.

Your first session is free. Booking is open for 2027.

Where I help

From counting in Grade R to fractions, decimals and percentages in Grade 7.

  • Number sense

Counting, place value and number bonds: the base everything else stands on.

  • Times tables

Learnt so they stick, not just recited.

  • Fractions

Drawn and seen first, so the rules make sense later.

  • Word problems

Reading the question, finding what it asks, and setting it out step by step.

  • Mental maths

Quick, confident working, without counting on fingers.

  • Tests and exams

Practice and revision before every test, so nothing is a surprise.

How I teach maths

  1. 1

    Find the gap

In the free first session I see what your child can do, and where it stops making sense.

  2. 2

    Build it up

We go back to the missing step and work forward, drawing and counting when that helps.

  3. 3

    Practise until it sticks

Short, regular practice, linked to what they’re doing at school right now.

After every lesson

A note after every lesson.

What we did, what still needs work, and what I noticed. In person, it comes home with your child. Online, I send it to you. No surprises at report time.

Build to BetterExample

What we did

Halves, quarters and eighths of a shape, drawn and coloured in.

What still needs work

Seeing that two quarters is the same as one half.

What I noticed

It clicked once we folded paper strips. We’ll use them again next week.

Quick questions

Which grades do you tutor in maths?

Grade R to 7, following CAPS. I look at what your child is doing in class and work from there.

My child says they’re “just bad at maths”. Can you help?

Usually there’s a gap from an earlier year. Once we find it and fill it in, maths stops feeling impossible, and that’s where confidence comes from.

Do you help with maths homework?

Yes. Your child can bring their homework and do it with me, so it’s not a battle at home.

One-to-one or a group for maths?

One-to-one is best for catching up, or getting ready for a test. A small group of 2 to 3 children at a similar level is good for regular practice.

Is the first session free?

Yes, for one-to-one and group sessions. It’s a chance for me to see where your child is and what they need, and for your child to get to know me.

Online or in person?

Whichever suits you: with me at Landskron Estate in Durbanville, or online on Google Meet.
